CLP Power has been powering Hong Kong for 115 years. We serve more than 80% of the city’s population and provide an electricity supply with a world-class reliability rate of over 99.999%. We are committed to serving Hong Kong to the best of our ability, and our network powers every aspect of urban life – from a railway network providing 5 million passenger trips a day to more than 60,000 lifts in daily use and every light within our service area. CLP Power attaches great importance to encouraging innovation and keeping abreast of the changing needs of the community and rapid advances in technology. Our mission is to continuously improve our operations to serve the community in a greener and smarter way.

CLP Power values knowledge exchange and innovation. We have a long and fruitful history of innovation and quality development and established our first Quality Control Circle (QCC) team in 2000 with a goal of encouraging staff to submit creative ideas to improve processes, procedures and operations. QCC was a new concept at that time, but it was warmly embraced by our employees and has attracted some brilliant and ingenious submissions. Since then, the popularity of QCC has increased exponentially across the company, and today the CLP Power QCC Convention has become an annual highlight in quality development. Every year, we receive an average of more than 100 QCC submissions from teams in different departments, backgrounds and professions. The most outstanding ideas are developed into solutions which help enhance our operational effectiveness, safety and environmental performance, and raise the standards for quality services within our company.

The great inventor Thomas Edison said: “None of my inventions came by accident. I see a worthwhile need to be met and I make trial after trial until it comes. What it boils down to is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.” Over the years, CLP Power employees have dedicated their time, creativity and professional knowledge to generate numerous ideas for improving the quality of our work and services. We hugely appreciate the contributions from our employees and believe the company’s support for the implementation of these initiatives is crucial for fostering a culture of innovation and quality development.

The theme of this year’s QIESC is “Smart Innovation, Quality Excellence”.
