Interviewee Profile

In 1992, Towngas launched a Superior Quality Service (SQS) programme and with concerted efforts by colleagues over the past 27 years, the SQS culture has taken root at all levels within the Company. Since 2001, the SQS programme has been extended to over 200 joint ventures in mainland China facilitating knowledge sharing, the experience learned from successful projects and the nurturing of quality services over different levels and departments.

Based on the concept of Continuing Transformation, which is firmly rooted in Towngas, great efforts are made to promote and uplift quality through innovation. In recent years, a key initiative of the SQS programme has been to focus colleagues’ creative contributions on leveraging sustainability within the Company’s business. In 2014, a Company-inspired publication was launched, “Innovation Headlines”, to circulate more timely details of innovative projects within and outside the Group to broaden horizons and to get everyone ‘to dig deeper and think better’. Tours to companies renowned for their quality enterprises in Taipei, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo and across Mainland China are also regularly organised to boost inspiration and trickle down creative practices from elsewhere. In an extended initiative, the Company has also established a “Towngas Innovation” page on Facebook to help create a virtual circle of awareness within the community.

More recently, “Growth = Innovation x Implementation” has been embraced as the Company’s new quality leitmotif (OR guideline). Through a variety of training programmes and creative activities, colleagues are being encouraged to think more strategically as to how to enhance quality services for customers and increase business growth. To embody this new cultural concept, a studio called “G = i x i Lab” has been equipped with 3D printers and scanners at Headquarters to enable creative ideas to be modelled in 3D for an instant, realistic image; in this virtual world brain-storming, refinement and improved practicability are resourcefully stimulated. Further, for Towngas colleagues enthused to take their research and development to the next step, a Company Innovation Funding scheme underwrites proposals that show good business growth promise.

The Group’s “Quality Service” culture is now deeply rooted at all levels within Towngas focused on raising operational efficiency through creativity to provide customers with top quality service. This echoes the theme of QIESC 2019: “Creativity and Innovation for Quality Excellence”. Towngas’ Superior Quality Service programme, a concept built on “Quality Circles” enhances corporate competitiveness through continuous improvement. “Quality Excellence” brings enormous benefits to any company, and is key to sustainable growth. It can only be achieved however through consistent efforts and unlimited creativity both of the enterprise in terms of strategic cultural initiatives, and of colleagues in terms of ideas being encouraged and supported.
